GCBOE Announces September Monthly Board Meeting Update
The Garrett County Board of Education has changed its regular monthly meeting to Monday, September 19, 2022, at 6:00 p.m. The Board will meet in the Cafeteria of the Dennett Road Educational Complex, Oakland. The meeting is open to the public and will be live-streamed for public review.

GCPS is Now Accepting Meal Applications for the 2022-2023 School Year
The Garrett County Public Schools Food and Nutrition Services Department is now accepting applications for the 2022-2023 school year. Applications are being mailed out to returning students, available online at www.gcps.net/food-nutrition, or by scanning the QR code. ALL families are STRONGLY ENCOURAGED to fill out an application as some federal and state funding is dependent on these forms.

Garrett County Health Department Announces Back-to-school immunization Clinics
The Garrett County Health Department (GCHD), in conjunction with Garrett County Public Schools, reminds parents of the required vaccines for school-aged children. The GCHD has announced multiple immunization clinics to be held on the northern and southern ends of the county for Tdap, Meningococcal, MMR, and Varicella vaccines free of charge.

Southern Garrett High Sees Addition of Lights to the Athletic Field
The Southern Garrett High School athletic field takes another step towards completion. Lights were installed on the field this week. Sports teams will now resume a regular schedule for the coming season.

Newly Assigned Law Enforcement Officers to Receive GCPS Facility Tours
Newly assigned law enforcement officers in the county will receive tours of all GCPS facilities on Monday, August 1st, 2022, and again on Tuesday, August 9th, 2022. The public is advised that they may see numerous emergency vehicles outside of school buildings at any given time, but there should be no cause for alarm unless otherwise announced.

Bus #21 on the Southern End Running Thirty Minutes Late 7/20/22
The Transportation Department of Garrett County Public Schools has announced that Bus #21 on the southern end of the county is running approximately 30 minutes late this morning, Wednesday, July 20, 2022.

GCBOE Approves Two Sets of Curricula for 22-23 School Year
The Garrett County Board of Education voted unanimously to approve two sets of curricula at the elementary level. Document Based Questions, a supplemental social studies curriculum, and Three Cheers for Pre-K will be in classrooms for the start of the 22-23 school year.

July 25, 2022 Board of Education Meeting
The Garrett County Board of Education will meet in Executive Session on Monday, July 25, 2022, to discuss the Superintendent’s evaluation. The Executive Session will be held at 1209 Youghiogheny Drive in Mt Lake Park, MD at 11:00 a.m. and is closed to the public.

The Transportation Department of Garrett County Public Schools has announced that Bus #83 on the southern end of the county is running late this afternoon. A downed tree is blocking the route.

Public Notice of Buses Running for Summer School from GCPS
Buses will be running for summer school, Mon-Thu, July 11-14 and 18-21. Drivers are asked to use extra caution and allow additional commute times in the morning and afternoon each day.

GCPS Summer Food Services Program Change
The Food and Nutrition Services Department that with changes in federal regulations, we will now be distributing seven days of meals beginning the week of July 11, 2022. All meals are available to any child 18 and under, free of charge, regardless of enrollment status with GCPS.

GCPS Robotics Team 1629 “GaCo” Recognized by the Governor’s Office and Garrett County Commissioners, Celebrate Years of Hard Work
The GCPS Collaboration Robotics Team 1629 GaCo has received recognition from Gov. Larry Hogan’s Office, the Garrett Co. Commissioners, the Garrett Co. Chamber of Commerce, and many businesses.

NOTIFICATION OF INTEREST FOR PRE-KINDERGARTEN PROGRAM FOR THREE-YEAR-OLDS - 2022-23 School Year
GCPS is now accepting applications for enrollment in the Three-Year-Old Pre-K program that will be located at Accident Elementary. This is the first year a program will be offered for this age group.

GCPS recently honored 2022 retirees from the school system with dinner and presentations. This year, 22 employees retired from multiple aspects of the GCPS organization.

Northern Garrett High School Track Athletes Recognized
Athletes from the NHS track relay team and their coaches were recognized at the June Board meeting earlier this week. The relay team placed first in the 4x400 relay during the state competition.
