Approved Virtual Learning Plan 2022-2023

The Garrett County Board of Education (GCBOE) and the Maryland State Board of Education (MSDE) have each approved the GCPS Virtual Learning Plan for the 2022-2023 school year.

Dr. Nicole Miller, Chief Academic Officer, presented the Garrett County Public Schools (GCPS) Virtual Learning Plan for the 2022-2023 school year at the monthly Board meeting in October.  The plan was sent out for public comment/feedback, reviewed by the Superintendent and Board, then voted on during the monthly Board meeting in November.

As detailed in the recommended Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) plan, some of the key points GCPS is utilizing as a part of the plan are:

  • The use of synchronous virtual learning (live instruction) on inclement weather days to the limit of virtual instruction days permitted by MSDE
  • The use of asynchronous virtual learning (no live instruction) on the 91st day of school, which is currently scheduled as a half day for students

Please note, GCPS will provide as much advance notice as possible to inform parents, staff, and the community that a Virtual Learning Day will occur in lieu of a traditional inclement weather day.
