Are you looking for ways to help in our community? Consider donating to the Garrett County Public Schools (GCPS) Lunch Angel Fund program.

All Garrett County Public Schools students receive free breakfast daily, and any student who qualifies for free or reduced meals also receives lunch at no cost. The Lunch Angel Fund program allows the community to help provide short-term assistance to families in need by covering negative lunch account balances for students who may not qualify for a free or reduced-price lunch but still might have trouble paying for a meal every day.

Our goal is to never shame our students for not having funds and always provide a high-quality meal to all our students. In saying that, the expense of doing so adds up very quickly. As we approach the end of the school year, we have students and families who could use your help in paying for school lunches. We currently have 240 students who could use assistance with their meal debt. Donors may designate a specific school. Otherwise, Garrett County Public Schools will allocate the donation equally to students with negative meal balances.

It’s easy to donate. You can send your donation to:

Garrett County Public Schools Foundation
PO Box 11
Oakland, MD 21550

In the memo, write Lunch Angel Fund in the comment line. Also, include which school you would like to apply the assistance to, if applicable. Include your name, address, phone number, donation (please do not send cash), and designation. All donations are tax-deductible.

The Lunch Angel program happens year-round. For additional information, please contact the GCPS Food & Nutrition Services Department at 301-334-8918 or food.services@gcps.net.
