Due to a procedural error that has arisen concerning the regulations outlined in COMAR 13A.02.09.01, as well as ongoing uncertainty regarding both Federal and State funding sources, Dr. Brenda McCartney, GCPS Superintendent of Schools, in consultation with Mr. Tom Woods, GCBOE President, has made the difficult decision not to proceed with making a recommendation at the scheduled March 11th, 2025, Garrett County Board of Education meeting regarding the Northern Area Proposal. Plans will not move forward with the relocation of Accident Elementary School or the move of eighth-grade students to Northern Garrett High School.
“This decision is not made lightly,” said Dr. McCartney. “I would like to thank the staff, the Northern Area Advisory Committee, and the community members who have taken the time to review and to provide input on this proposal. As we move forward we will be focusing on operating all of our facilities efficiently to support our students and our communities.”
