Garrett County Public Schools (GCPS) is proud to announce that it is among four school systems across Maryland to achieve an impressive 95% graduation rate for the 2023-2024 school year. This milestone comes as the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) reports that the statewide four-year cohort high school graduation rate has reached its highest level since 2017, now standing at 87.6%.

The newly released data highlights an increase of 4.3 percentage points for GCPS and 1.8 percentage points in the state’s overall four-year graduation rate compared to the prior year. Additionally, the dropout rate of the four-year cohort has declined locally and at the state level.

GCPS remains committed to ensuring every student has access to the resources, guidance, and opportunities needed to reach their full potential. The school system aims to maintain and build upon this success through continued investment in academic programs, career and technical education pathways, and student support services.

Maryland’s cohort graduation rates track students from their freshman year through their senior year, following federal reporting guidelines. Statewide and local data on four-year and five-year cohort graduation rates, as well as the four-year cohort dropout rate, are available on the Maryland Report Card website https://reportcard.msde.maryland.gov/.
