Garrett County Public Schools (GCPS) is pleased to report that the plans to transform the former Southern Middle building into the new Broad Ford School are well underway. Renovations of the facility began after the conclusion of the previous school year and will continue through the end of this calendar year. 
Currently, the inside of the building is completely gutted. Improvements to the building include alterations to several entrances/exits, new HVAC ductwork, updated electrical and plumbing, and the leveling of floors to ensure a uniform level throughout the facility.
The next steps include continued mechanical work, interior framing, exterior finishing, and groundwork (excavation) as weather conditions permit and improve. The project is expected to conclude by the end of 2025, with school starting in the new facility in January 2026.
