The North Garrett FFA chapter is an integral part of the agricultural education curriculum at Northern High School. Students who participate in this program receive knowledge and skills in the areas of leadership, personal growth and career success. The Northern High school agriculture education program strives to provide students with hands-on learning through a variety of avenues and courses available. Students have the opportunity to gain knowledge in the areas of animal science, plant science, mechanics, agriculture business and wildlife and forestry. They are also provided with real life settings in which to apply this knowledge through the wonderful facilities available to them, including a greenhouse, mechanics shop, and an animal science facility. The FFA chapter is very active on a local, state and national level. Each year, students from the chapter travel all over the country to attend and participate in over 20 agricultural career and leadership development events, state and national conventions, universities, and agricultural industries. Outside of school, students have the opportunity to expand upon their classroom knowledge by participating in a supervised agricultural experience project which can earn them a half credit towards graduation. These projects can lead to award potential and success through the FFA organization at a local, state and national level. The national FFA organization also offers over a million dollars in scholarships to students all across the country to further their career success after high school.
