Office of the Superintendent

  • Image of Superintendent Barbara BakerWelcome to the 2021-22 school year! Thank you for your patience as we develop plans to return to learning 5 days a week for this school year.  You, your children, and the staff at GCPS have done an extraordinary job adjusting to a total transformation of education in the 2020-2021 school year during the pandemic. Our staff and students rose to the challenge and continued to forge ahead. We will continue to monitor health developments surrounding the pandemic while also focusing on the new school year.

We must continue to make decisions based on the health and safety of our students and staff and be prepared to follow guidance issued by health experts and other important authorities. We will monitor and adjust as the circumstances warrant. However, this calendar communicates various policies, valuable student and parental information, and important calendar days for schools and school activities during the 2021-2022 school year.

The Garrett County Public Schools calendar is designed with a central focus – to keep all stakeholders informed of important information regarding educational programs and various system practices throughout the school year. Features of this calendar include highlights of the many successes from the 2020-21 school year, artwork created by our talented students, and pictures of various activities from instructional settings to extracurricular activities.

As we move into a new school year, parents and citizens are urged to continue their involvement in our schools as volunteers, members of parent and booster organizations, leaders of school improvement teams, advocates on behalf of students, and supporters of school activities.

I look forward to meeting with various stakeholders throughout the school year as we work together to explore ways to enhance the services we provide for children. This calendar allows me to remind parents and families that I value your input, and I am available to speak with you anytime. On behalf of our students, I would like to thank you in advance for your contributions toward making the 2021-2022 school year a very successful and rewarding academic experience.
