Enrollment

  • Verification of Age

    A child aged 5 by September 1 and under age 21 on the first day of school is eligible for enrollment. Acceptable age verification includes:
    • Birth certificate
    • Hospital certificate
    • Physician certificate
    • Passport/Visa
    • Birth registration

    Verification of Custody

    Only a parent or court-appointed custodian may enroll a student in Garrett County Public Schools. Legal custody, not simply physical custody, must be verified at the time of enrollment. Legal documentation pertaining to custody must be provided at the time of enrollment.
     

    Verification of Residency

    Acceptable residency verification includes:
    • Signed and dated lease agreement or mortgage bill/statement
    • Monthly or recurring utility bills (water, electricity, cable, etc.)
    • Real estate tax bill/statement
    • Deed, title, or settlement sheet
    • Real Property Data Search

    Current within 30 days of enrollment; must include name, address, and date; To be provided for each change of address, even within the county

    Anyone not a resident of Garrett County must contact the Student Services Department at 301.334.8926 to determine residency and tuition status.

    Homeless Students/Families in Transition

    Students in transition are entitled to rights under the McKinney-Vento Homeless Act. For additional information, call the Student Services Department at 301.334.8938.
