Pre-Kindergarten Registration

  • Beginning February 14, 2022, 8:00 am*, Garrett County Public Schools will be accepting applications for its 2022-2023 Pre-Kindergarten Programs. To be eligible for this program, a child must have been 4 years old by September 1, 2022. Interested persons need to complete a pre-kindergarten application online or at the school within their district. Registration will be held at each school in May 2022. Applicants will receive information on their application status and appointment notifications by May 15, 2022.

    Garrett County Public Schools that offer a Pre-Kindergarten program include:
    • Accident Elementary
    • Broad Ford Elementary
    • Friendsville Elementary
    • Grantsville Elementary
    • Route Forty Elementary
    • Yough Glades Elementary
    For enrollment in the Pre-Kindergarten Program, the school system will first consider each family's monthly household income. Initial eligibility, then, is determined by whether a child qualifies for free or reduced lunch meals as determined by guidelines that are published annually by the United States Department of Agriculture and the Maryland State Department of Education. Proof of income will be required at registration.
    The school system will also automatically enroll four-year-old children into Pre-Kindergarten if any one of the following applies:
    • Limited English Proficiency and Limited English Proficient
    • Homelessness
    • Prior participation in a Head Start or Even Start program
    • Referral
    • Emergency and health situation
    • Home and family circumstances
    Students that do not meet the automatic enrollment criteria or the income eligibility criterion will be given an empty seat in the home-origin school. If there are no empty seats available in the home school of origin, students will be given an empty seat in the school nearest to their home school. Please note that homeless children will be automatically eligible, even if the enrollment exceeds 20 or more students per school site. All applications will be time and date-stamped to support the enrollment process.
    The application packet includes a parent letter, eligibility criteria, the Notification of Interest Form, and a Pre-Kindergarten Questionnaire.
    Interested persons must complete and submit the Pre-Kindergarten Notification of Interest Form and a Pre-Kindergarten Program Questionnaire. The information on these forms will be used to determine your child's eligibility for the Pre-Kindergarten Program. Beginning February 14, 2022, at 8:00 am*, these forms can be obtained from the nearest elementary school, from the Elementary Education office in Oakland, downloaded and printed here (paper form), or individuals may submit them online here (electronic form)--each of these links will go live February 14, 2022, 8:00 am*We strongly encourage you to complete the Pre-K application at your earliest convenience.

    *In case of an inclement weather day on February 14th, applications will be accepted the next day when schools are in session. In the event of a 2-hour delay, applications will be accepted beginning at 10:00 am.
